To improve living conditions for vulnerable displaced families in the Governorate of Karbala’, UNDP under the Expanded Humanitarian Response Programme, supported the Iraqi organization Al-Mamoura Humanitarian Establishment to complete shelter rehabilitation and provide garbage collection.

This project aims to serve the 1,800 displaced persons in Al Imam Sadeq area. Women make up one third of the displaced, most of whom are either widows or divorced. About half of the displaced are children.  The 7,600 displaced families currently live in extremely bad conditions and this project aims to improve the living conditions through rehabilitating the shelters, providing access to water and garbage removal services. The project is expected to be completed by October 2012.
