Fast Facts: GFATM Tuberculosis Programme

April 29, 2016

Based on the latest epidemiological situation, Iraq ranks 108 out of 213 countries and territories by the estimated number of Tuberculosis (TB) cases, and is considered amongst 8 high TB burden countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). The Government of Iraq considers TB a major public health problem.

In January 2008, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq was selected as the Principle Recipient to implement the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM). TB grants have been approved under two funding rounds; and UNDP has been supporting the Ministry of Health and Environment through the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP).

This Fast Facts sheet includes an overview of the GFATM TB and key outcomes achieved.
