Fast Facts: Local Area Development Programme (LADP)

In response to the fragmented process of local development in Iraq, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been supporting Governorates in building capacity for effective planning and implementation of local development strategies through the Local Area Development Programme (LADP).

Funded by the European Union (EU), the Programme duration is envisaged for 3 years to target 12 Governorates: Anbar, Basra, Diyala, Dohuk, Erbil, Kirkuk, Missan, Muthana, Ninewah, Qadisiya, Salah al-Din, and Sulaimaniyah.

The Fast Facts sheet summarizes key results achieved in 2015. 

Highlights

  • 12 Provincial Steering Committees established, including for women issues and CSOs
  • 9 governorates supported to develop work plans
  • 3 Provincial Development Strategies conceptualized for Dohuk, Erbil and Sulaimaniyah
  • The National Urban and Governorate Urban Strategies initiated
