  • Fallujah Maternity and Children’s Hospital Opens

    The city of Fallujah, in Anbar Governorate, is home to approximately 700,000 people. Fallujah experienced some of the greatest violence and conflict in Iraq since May 2003. The city and the surrounding areas were left with severely deteriorated health services and a lack of effective facilities, particularly for paediatric, neonatal, and maternal care.

    The United Nations marked International Volunteer Day for the first time in Iraq on 5 December. The event, held in Erbil under the theme “Volunteer Action Counts” was attended by the civil society, students from Salahadin University, the Government and the United Nations.

He lives in the Soran district of the Erbil Governorate and previously worked as a guard at a government’s office. “Life wasn’t too bad then, we had our own place and I had a steady income from my job,” Hakim remembers.
