New Zealand supports stabilization in Iraq with a second US$1 million contribution

Baghdad – The Government of New Zealand has contributed an additional US$1 million to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This brings the New Zealand’s total contribution to FFS to $2 million to date.
Women to play a key role in achieving community reconciliation in Diyala

Baghdad- On 22 October 2017 in Baghdad, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a workshop, to discuss the role of women in community reconciliation in the Governorate of Diyala. The Implementation and Follow-Up National Reconciliation Committee (IFNRC) and UNDP’s Support for Integrated Reconciliation in Iraq (SIRI) project jointly facilitated the workshop, with the generous support from the United Kingdom.
Italy contributes US$2.7 million to stabilization in Iraq

Baghdad- The Government of Italy has contributed an additional US$2.7 million (€2.4 million) to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This brings Italy’s total contribution to FFS to almost US$10.6 million (€9.4 million) to date.

Baghdad - To promote sustainable energy in Iraq, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is providing technical and capacity building support to the Government aiming to integrate the renewable energy source of solar photovoltaic in the energy mix to meet the country’s electricity demand. Creating provisions for clean and sustainable energy have become urgent for Iraq to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2016. This support is being channeled under the project “Catalyzing the Use of Solar Photovoltaic Energy”, in partnership with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Women Minorities Forum taking steps to contribute to recovery and resilience in Iraq

Erbil- The Women Minorities Forum (WMF), comprised of 20 women from different minorities in Iraq, met for the third time on 17-19 September 2017 in Erbil to discuss the role of women in bringing gender considerations to bear on the resilient recovery process in Iraq. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been providing technical support to the Forum since its establishment in 2016.
