    Baghdad – The Government of New Zealand has contributed an additional US$1 million to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This brings the New Zealand’s total contribution to FFS to $2 million to date.

    Baghdad- The Government of Italy has contributed an additional US$2.7 million (€2.4 million) to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This brings Italy’s total contribution to FFS to almost US$10.6 million (€9.4 million) to date.

  • UNDP support for renewable energy in Iraq Oct 2, 2017

    Baghdad - To promote sustainable energy in Iraq, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is providing technical and capacity building support to the Government aiming to integrate the renewable energy source of solar photovoltaic in the energy mix to meet the country’s electricity demand. Creating provisions for clean and sustainable energy have become urgent for Iraq to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2016. This support is being channeled under the project “Catalyzing the Use of Solar Photovoltaic Energy”, in partnership with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

    Erbil- The Women Minorities Forum (WMF), comprised of 20 women from different minorities in Iraq, met for the third time on 17-19 September 2017 in Erbil to discuss the role of women in bringing gender considerations to bear on the resilient recovery process in Iraq. Nearly thirty Iraqi officials convened in the holy city of Karbala, on 22-23 August 2017, to partake in an intensive two-day workshop titled “Governorate Urban Strategies for the Pilgrimage Cluster: Meeting the SDGs in Iraq".

    Baghdad- Twelve Iraqi judges and prosecutors from the Governorate of Ninewah successfully completed a criminal case management course held in Baghdad on 25-26 August 2017. UNDP Rule of Law Programme designed and conducted the course collaboratively with the Higher Judicial Council and the Judicial Development Institute.

    Sofia- From 13-17 June 2017, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a study tour and workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria, for a group of 11 Parliamentarians and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to explore models of diversity protection and anti-discrimination legislations in Eastern Europe, specifically in Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Croatia. The study tour and workshop were part of the broader UNDP support for institutional reform and good governance in Iraq in line with government priorities and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 on building Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities.
