UNDP supports Iraq to track and manage

USD 20 billion in aid money

 

Baghdad, December  UNDP – Since 2003 over USD 28 billion were pledged in aid to Iraq, of which almost USD 20 billion has to date been committed. As the world’s leading development agency, UNDP took on the role to help Iraqi authorities coordinate and track what is arguably one of the largest development programmes in recent times.

 “To handle this influx of funds - in accordance with the international standards expected by donors - is a great challenge to Iraq, as the country was isolated for decades and had neither an infrastructure nor experience in aid management,” noted Sylvia Fletcher, Head of UNDP-Iraq’s Governance team.

“By using the latest technologies and expertise, UNDP is implementing an Aid Effectiveness assistance programme, supporting the Iraqi government to own and lead foreign aid flows for the development process in the country,” she added.
